Awesome project I found through Racialicious, Me, the Muslim Next Door uses audio, video and photos to portray the experiences and opinions of various Muslims (and couples) in a way that TLC's All American Muslim doesn't.
I have often felt out of place as a Muslim: often, you are not allowed to refer to yourself as that in Western culture unless you fit the stereotype of what a Muslim woman is. I don't. I have had many frustrating conversations and experiences that make me feel a bit of nerves or fear when people "out" me or ask me my religion. In fact, I try to avoid it. Not because I am ashamed of it, but because I don't need to hear a stranger telling me I am/am not a Muslim/agnostic/atheist etc. It has happened at work, on public transportation and in classrooms.
So, I really appreciate what this project is doing and think they do it a pretty cool, modern way. Check it out and let me know what you think :)
